FAQ

1. WHAT IS HEADROOM?

  • Headroom is the distance between the top of the door and the lowest point of the ceiling or any obstruction such as beams, pipes or ductwork.

2. HOW MUCH DOES A GARAGE DOOR COST?

  • The price you pay for a garage door depends on numerous factors. The model, size, options you choose and jobsite conditions all figure into the price of the door. Prices at Coast Garage Door vary between $330 for a standard sized 8W x 7H non-insulated door with no windows, and $4260 for a standard sized 16W x 8H Fiberglass door, insulated with the window option. These prices do not include additional options and are installed prices. To get an estimate for your door, call us or send a Request Estimate form from the Contact Us page.

3. I'M BUILDING A NEW GARAGE, WHAT SIZE SHOULD MY OPENING BE?

  • Here, at Coast Garage Door, we install in the finished opening. So, the size of the garage door is the same size of the finished opening of the garage itself. For more information, see our Measuring/Framing Detail.

4. ONE OF THE SPRINGS ON MY GARAGE DOOR IS BROKE, DO I NEED TO REPLACE THEM BOTH?

  • Yes. When one spring breaks, the other often follows because they have been used the same amount of times. Save yourself the cost and inconvienence of another service call and replace them both at the same time. For a faster way to get your springs changed, contact us with these measurments:

A. Overall length of the spring.

B. Inside Diameter.

C. Measure the length of 20 coils to get the wire gauge.

When you are inside the garage looking out, what side of the garage is the broken spring on?

5. I HAVE AN ELECTRIC OPENER, HOW CAN I RUN MY GARAGE DOOR IF THE POWER GOES OUT?

  • All openers come with a release cord that can be pulled so the door can be operated manually.

TO RELEASE: With the garage door fully closed, simply pull the red release cord down towards the floor. Use caution when doing so, to make sure that the door is completley closed, as it may want to slam down closed once it is released from the opener.

6. WHICH MODEL OPENER IS BETTER? CHAIN DRIVE OR BELT DRIVE?

  • Each has its advantages.

BELT- Is the quietest garage door opener and would be recommended for garages that have living quarters in close proximity to the garage. Liftmaster belt drives have a Lifetime warranty on the motor and the belt.

CHAIN- Is the garage door opener that has been made the longest and offers dependable performance year after year. All of our garage door openers are very reliable and require virtually no maintenance.

7. ARE REPLACEMENT SECTIONS AVAILABLE FOR GARAGE DOORS?

  • Yes. Replacement sections are available for some doors if the model of the door is still manufactured. Exposure to the elements over time can alter the color of the door, therefore a replacement section may not be a perfect match to your exisiting sections, which could not be the best option for your door.

8. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO LUBRICATE MY DOOR?

  • Do not use oil or grease such as WD40 to lubricate the guides of your door. Contact us to buy "Super Slick Slick Stuff", which is a lubricant made for extreme conditions and tough jobs.

9. I CURRENTLY HAVE A ONE-PIECE DOOR, CAN IT BE REPLACED WITH A SECTIONAL GARAGE DOOR?

  • Yes. Our professional installers will see to install proper tracks, springs and hardware intended for a sectional garage door.
